He is a graduate of the Kanazawa College of Art. Okuya lived in Paris from 1965?1982. In 1965, he began to participate in the Biennale de Paris, and from there displayed his works at international art exhibitions and print exhibitions throughout Europe. In 1988, Okuya created a mural for the Okinawa Ocean View Hotel. His works have been the subject of many solo and group exhibitions in Japan and abroad. His major solo exhibitions include Galerie le Zodiaque, Belgium (1967?1970); ?The Twenty-four Hinges,? Tokyo University College of Arts and Sciences Museum of Art (1969); Climaises Ventadour, France (1971). Ado Gallery, Belgium (1975); Ginza Jiyugaoka Gallery, Tokyo (1982); Matsukeyakido Museum, Toyota (1981); Il Tempo, Tokyo (1991); Komatsu City Msueum, Gifu (1999); Gallery Yume, Tokyo (2008?2009); and ?Naomi Okuya Exhibition,? Hanbara Hanga Museum, Gifu (2015); among others. His major group exhibitions include ?Saburo Miyamoto and Naomi Okuya,? Komatsu City Museum (2012); ?Dessins,? Zeit-Foto Salon,Tokyo (2015); among others. Okuya has published books including Taikakusenjo no kotokunibito (Gentiles on the Diagonal Line) (Suisesha, 2003), and Yohaku wa geijutu ni kankei ga nai ga hitotsu no fuorumu de aru (The Margin is Not Related to Art, but it is One of Its Forms) (Suisesha, 2008).
