Uniform printed boards (Beobachtungs-Ergebnisse) and similar original printed wrappers (Vorbericht). = Very rare set of reports of the Austrian contributions of an international (chiefly Austrian) Polar Expedition, including the rare Vorbericht. One of the few important Austrian Polar Expeditions, it dealt near exclusively with the geography, meteorology, zoology, and botany of Jan Mayen, a volcanic Norwegian island between Iceland and Spitzbergen. It also includes astronomical and geo-magnetic observations. The zoology includes papers by Von Pelzeln on birds and mammals, Fischer on Echinodermata, Steindachner on fish, and Becher on Mollusca and insects. In total, 22 species are described as new, including three molluscs. Uncut, hence fore edges a bit frayed and some with a few short tears; spine of the thick Band I broken, otherwise a very good, clean set. The Cat. BM(NH) listing is incomplete. Nissen only lists the German contributions. Cat. BM(NH) pp. 2221, 2347.
