Paris, Panckoucke, 1793-1796. Two parts (texte, atlas] in one. 4to (25.7 x 20.0 cm). 383 pp. [xv, 336; 32]; 113 (of 114) engraved plates, of which 18 double-sized. Text part in original boards with printed label on the spine; atlas in contemporary green half calf over marbled boards. Spine with gilt bands and gilt title, and embossed floral vignettes. Speckled edges. = A rare part of the Ultimate Encyclopaedia and the largest of all great Encyclopaedias and the most important work published during the French Enlightement. This section - complete in itself - written by the French writer and editor Jacques Lacombe (1721-1811), who was responsible for many sections of the famous Encyclopédie Méthodique (e.g., Arts et Métiers Mecaniques, Arts aratoires, etc.). This is the complete text and near complete atlas. Lacking is plate 6, which is one of several plates illustrating fish hooks. All plates showing fishing activities and fishery scenes are present. The atlas was published first. Both parts are rare. All text and plates very good clean. Schmitt, S.
